  • On 3 February 1983, Shanghai JJ Shipping Co., Ltd was established.
  • On 15 February 1984, a maiden voyage ceremony was held at Shanghai International Passenger Terminal for Shanghai-Hong Kong service by our luxury cruise liner—Jinjiang.  
  • On 31 May 1985, JJ Shipping purchased its first container vessel—Tongyang. On June 8, 1985, her maiden voyage for container liner service was started between Hong Kong-Shanghai trade, signifying JJ Shipping’s business scope started to reach international container shipment.  
  • In December 1988, Jiang Zemin while serving as secretary of CPC Shanghai Committee wrote an inscription for JJ Shipping—“proactively develop regional shipping undertakings to meet the need for export-oriented economy.

    On 8 September 1989, JJ Shipping acquired three container vessels—“Tongshun”, “Tongyun” and “Tonglian” for better engagement in the “Three Exchanges” between mainland China and Taiwan province. The company also opened up Shanghai-Hong Kong-Taiwan service for container transport, becoming the first shipping line in mainland China to realize opening of transportation to Taiwan.  
  • On 19 October 2000, JJ Shipping set up a holding company—Shanghai Jingcheng International Shipping Agency Co., Ltd for international shipping agency business and other related businesses.  
  • On 14 September 2001, JJ Shipping bareboat chartered two container vessels—“Hengyu” and “Longyu”. In October of the same year, the two ships were put into operation on one of the company’s choice networks—“Hanshin Shuttle Express”, which is the first choice route of the company. This signifies JJ Shipping’s successful initiation of its brand strategy.  
  • In October 2001, Shanghai Jinyi Warehousing Co., Ltd was established to provide supporting services such as warehousing, loading/unloading, empty container stacking, heavy container storage and container repairing/cleaning. On December 4, Shanghai Jinchang Logistics Co., Ltd was established, with its main businesses covering international freight forwarding and non-vessel operation for imported/exported cargos via ocean and/or air shipment.  
  • In January 2002, HDS (Hot Delivery Service) was initiated for “Hanshin Shuttle Express”.  
  • In April 2005, the four sister vessels—“Chunjin”, “Xiajin”, “Qiujin” and “Dongjin” were updated. On April 22, “Dongjin” carrying 731 TEUs sailed from the terminal, marking the official initiation of “JJ Four Season Express” service.  
  • On 16 September 2008, “JJ Tokai Shuttle Express” which is a weekly double-shift route on Shanghai- Nagoya and Shanghai-Shimizu network was opened up, marking full coverage of choice network between Shanghai and Japan.  
  • On 14 December 2008, JJ Shipping was approved by Department of Transportation and obtained certificate (intended for direct oceanic voyage) for waterway transport across Taiwan Strait. Sequence No. 0839 voyage of “Xiajin” set out from Shanghai port for a direct voyage to Keelung, Taichung and Kaohsiung.  
  • On 17 September 2011, JJ Shipping successfully launched the maiden voyage of “Qingdao-Japan Express”. “Hengyu”, detected to be free of any defect prior to the voyage, set out from Qianwan Terminal, Qingdao, realizing the initiation of networks not based in the home port in Shanghai.  
  • On 18 September 2012, JJ Shipping and Shanghai Waigaoqiao (Group) Co., Ltd held a signing ceremony at VIP room of Shanghai city hall for Waigaoqiao Shipping & Logistics Project. Ai Baojun, permanent member of CPC Shanghai Committee and deputy mayor of Shanghai municipal government; Xiao Guiyu, vice secretary general of Shanghai municipal government; and Wang Jian, secretary of CPC Committee and director of Shanghai municipal SASAC attended the ceremony and witnessed the signing.  
  • On 8 November 2012, North China-Taiwan service was opened up, with its ports of call covering Tianjin, Qingdao, Keelung, Taichung and Kaohsiung. The company purchased 40 berths and scheduled the frequency to be once every week.  
  • On 25 November 2012, network reaching Thailand and Vietnam was opened up, calling at Shanghai, Bangkok, Leam Chabang and Hochiminh. As many as 70 berths were bought to provide container liner shipment scheduled at once per week.  
  • On 4 June 2013 in the noon, Vice Mayor Zhou Bo and his delegation paid an official visit to JJ Shipping. The group leader then presented a subjective report. The Vice Mayor fully recognized the result of transformation featuring “One Body, Two Wings” initiated by JJ Shipping. He also raised requirements on four aspects including brand strategy, capital operation, informationization and mid-long term incentive mechanism.  
  • On 14 June 2013, approved by the municipal government and municipal SASAC, the company name “Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping Group Co., Ltd” was changed to “Shanghai Jinjiang Shipping (Group) Co., Ltd”.  
  • On 31 October 2013, the group received additional capital injection of 1 billion RMB from Shanghai municipal SASAC. The registered capital was then increased to 1.1 billion RMB. Required formalities for change of registration were completed and capital increase became effective.  
  • On 1 July 2014, Shanghai Jinjiang Human Resources Co., Ltd was opened for business. 
  • On 29 July 2014, JJ Shipping Logistics (S) Pte Ltd was registered and established in Singapore. The subsidiary is expected to be JJ Shipping’s operational headquarter across Southeast Asia.  
  • The construction project of Shanghai Jinjiang Mitsui-Soko Warehouse Logistics Co., Ltd was held on 8 December 2014 successfully in Waigaoqiao Free trade zone and the construction project of Shanghai Jinjiang Sumitomo International Logistics Co., Ltd was completed on 16 January  2015 successfully.  

  • On January 1, 2015, JJ Shipping was awarded the “Shanghai Famous Brand”.

  • On March 21, 2015, JJ Shipping officially launched Shanghai-Kyushu Route, and on August 12, the maiden voyage along Shanghai-Hong Kong-Haiphong Route was set out.

  • On August 17, 2015, JJ Shipping held a delivery ceremony at Jiangnan Shipyard for MILD TUNE, which started its maiden voyage at Shanghai Mingdong Container Terminal on August 23, with this, total six ships of the first batch JJ Shipping “Jiangnan Jinjiang Class” 1,100 TEU Container Ship within the shipbuilding project had been delivered and come into service.

  • On October 10, 2015, the Tang Guoding & Liu Biping Model Workers Studio, JJ Shipping’s first studio named after model workers was officially established, with the plaque-awarding ceremony held at the headquarters’ conference room.


  • On April 13th to 14th, 2016, the Group launched and finished the 2016 Annual Audit on Safety Management System in the form of “internal audit replacing external audit”, which was first adopted by the Group amongst shipping companies in Shanghai.
  • On April 23th, 2016, the Saturday voyage of Kyushu Shipping Line added the port of Busan, Korean and officially launched services there. On June 25th, the Qingdao Express Shipping Line added the port of Busan, Korea.
  • In December 2016, the Group was awarded the honorary titles of "Shanghai Famous Trademark (2017-2019)" and "2016 Shanghai Famous Brand".
